Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) - Health & Wellbeing Team Lead

LocationAberdeen

Categories Football Foundations, Health & Wellbeing Team Lead

Closing Date21 Sep 2026

About the Organisation

Aberdeen FC Community Trust (AFCCT) is an award-winning charity existing to provide support and opportunity to change lives for the better, across Northeast Scotland and beyond. AFCCT is the independent partner charity of Aberdeen Football Club and, together with the "hook" of football, utilises the Club's high profile, brand and connections to enhance the delivery of the trust's charitable objectives to benefit local communities and positively influence others.

About the Role

AFCCT is looking for an experienced Health & Wellbeing Team Lead to take overall responsibility for its growing health and wellbeing portfolio. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the postholder will manage health and wellbeing staff, sessional workers and volunteers, and lead the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of work designed to improve population health and reduce health inequalities — with a particular focus on family support, dementia support and upstream preventative health activity.

A key part of the role is making good use of the reach, power and appeal of Aberdeen FC to engage people who may be less likely to walk through the doors of a traditional health or support service — while ensuring that connection is used responsibly: identifying need, building trust, creating appropriate activity and connecting people with specialist services rather than duplicating them.

The role will work closely with Community Planning Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership, local authorities, NHS and public health colleagues, charities, the SPFL Trust and other partners.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 35 hours per week, with flexibility required due to the nature of the role, including some evening/weekend work at times. The role is a mix of office time and offsite delivery.

What You'll Do

Provide day-to-day leadership and line management for Health & Wellbeing staff, sessional workers and volunteers, setting clear priorities and maintaining high standards of delivery
Hold overall operational responsibility for AFCCT's health and wellbeing programmes, including planning, resourcing, quality assurance, risk management, budgets, monitoring and evaluation
Lead development of a clear health and wellbeing delivery plan contributing to AFCCT's ambition to improve population health and reduce inequalities
Use local health profiles, community insight, participant feedback and relevant Community, Locality and Health & Social Care plans to identify unmet need and shape future programmes
Develop and oversee upstream, preventative programmes improving physical, social and emotional wellbeing
Take responsibility for the development and quality of AFCCT's family support and dementia support programmes, alongside other existing and emerging health and wellbeing activity
Build effective referral and warm-introduction pathways into health, social care, welfare, mental health, community safety and other specialist services, ensuring AFCCT complements rather than duplicates existing provision
Build and maintain strong working relationships with Aberdeen City Council, the Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS/public health partners, third sector organisations, the SPFL Trust, funders and other stakeholders
Represent AFCCT at relevant strategic and operational partnership meetings
Translate strategic priorities and funded commitments into practical delivery plans with the Operations Manager and wider leadership team
Set meaningful outcomes and KPIs, and ensure accurate collection and analysis of participation, reach, demographic and outcome data
Track and report reach and impact, combining quantitative evidence with participant feedback, case studies and learning
Support funding applications, reports and funder relationships with credible programme plans, evidence of need, budgets, outcomes and impact information
Manage programme budgets responsibly and identify opportunities for sustainable funding and partnership investment
Embed safeguarding, health and safety, equality and data protection across all activity
Develop staff and volunteers through supervision, coaching, training and clear performance expectations
Act as an ambassador for AFCCT and Aberdeen FC's community impact

Significant professional experience in health improvement, public health, community health and wellbeing, social care or a closely related field, including substantial responsibility for developing and managing programmes
Proven experience managing and developing staff and/or multidisciplinary delivery teams
Strong understanding of health inequalities, the wider determinants of health and upstream/preventative approaches
