About the Role
The Mentee Coach plays an important role in supporting the delivery of a high-quality Girls' Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) programme, helping to create a safe, inclusive and performance-focused environment that fosters the development of young players.
This is a developmental volunteer position designed to support aspiring coaches through structured learning opportunities, mentoring, and practical coaching experience. Working alongside and under the guidance of Burnley FC in the Community's ETC coaching staff, the Mentee Coach will assist in planning, preparing and delivering training sessions while developing their own coaching knowledge, skills and experience. The role offers exposure to both training and matchday environments.
What You'll Do
Session Delivery & Player Development
Support ETC Centre Coaches in planning, preparing, delivering and evaluating high-quality coaching sessions within the FA Emerging Talent Centre programme
Create a positive, engaging, player-centred environment that inspires female players to maximise their potential and enjoyment of the game
Take a lead coaching role with an assigned BFC Women Junior age-group team, delivering training sessions and supporting players during matches
Monitor and support individual player progression through Individual Development Plans (IDPs), adapting coaching practices to meet players' needs
Promote the technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social development of players in line with the ETC philosophy
Provide constructive feedback to players, supporting continuous improvement
Talent Identification & Pathway Development
Assist in identifying and developing talented female footballers, supporting their progression through the Burnley FC Women and FA female football pathway
Contribute to talent identification by observing, assessing and recommending players for appropriate opportunities
Support the Senior Female Football Development Coach with recruitment and engagement activities, including tournaments, school visits, assemblies, workshops, festivals and open training sessions
Actively promote female football opportunities in the local community to increase participation
General
Understand and implement the Charity's safeguarding policy and best practice guidelines
Work flexible hours where required, including occasional matchdays on weekends or evenings
Promote the Burnley FC in the Community brand and ethos professionally
Demonstrate the Charity's values: Resilient, Inclusive, Integrity and Passion
What They're Looking For
Essential:
FA Introduction to Coaching Football (formerly FA Level 1), or working towards the next appropriate coaching qualification
FA Safeguarding Children qualification (or willingness to obtain before starting)
FA Introduction to First Aid in Football (IFAiF) qualification (or willingness to obtain before starting)
Personal qualities: Proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated, with a positive can-do attitude and a strong sense of personal responsibility. Reliable, organised and conscientious, able to work independently and as part of a team. Resilient when facing challenges, and driven by a genuine desire to help others.
Practical Details
Location: Various locations across Burnley and Pendle
Contract type: Volunteer
Working pattern: Thursdays, 5pm–9pm (4 hours per week)
Vetting: Enhanced DBS check required (cost met by the Charity); role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
