Bring together FAN's relationships with network members, club foundations, supporters' trusts and ambassadors, and make sure every one has an owner and a purpose.
About Football Action Network
Football Action Network (FAN) is a community interest company set up in 2026 to use football for community action. We work as a partner to clubs, club foundations, community groups and campaigners, helping them do more of what they already do well. We are not a regulator or a think tank.
Our work sits under three headings: We Protect, We Unite and We Amplify. In our first year that means inclusive community football leagues, events such as our national tournament, and campaigns on online harms in football and diversity in senior football roles.
FAN is volunteer-led, with heads of department across engagement, advocacy, comms, research, income and operations.
Why this role exists
Most of what FAN does depends on other organisations: football for good groups who join our network, club foundations and supporters' trusts who run programmes with us, and well-known people who lend their voice to our campaigns. Right now those relationships sit with whoever made the first contact, and there's no single picture of who we know, how well, or what we've asked of them. This role brings that together and makes sure each relationship has an owner and a purpose.
Who you'll lead
You'll oversee three groups of relationships, each with its own lead:
- Network members: football for good organisations that join FAN. Led by thematic network managers.
- Foundations and trusts: club foundations and supporters' trusts. Led by foundation network managers.
- VIPs and ambassadors: players, broadcasters and public figures who support our work. Led by the VIP and ambassadors manager.
What you'll be responsible for
- A relationship plan. In your first two months, agree with the CEO which organisations and people matter most to FAN over the next 12 months, what we want to achieve with each, and who owns each relationship.
- Leading your team. Hold regular check-ins with the network managers and the VIP and ambassadors manager. Help them prioritise, unblock them when they're stuck, and recruit new managers as the network grows.
- Bringing members in. Oversee how new member organisations join FAN, from first conversation through to signing our network member agreement and getting set up on the FAN hub.
- Key conversations. Join or lead conversations with senior contacts where the relationship needs it, such as a new foundation partnership or a first approach to an ambassador.
- Ambassador checks. Make sure every ambassador or VIP approach goes through our due diligence and conflict-of-interest check before contact is made.
- Working across FAN. Connect the right contacts to the right work: a foundation to a league pilot, a member to a campaign, an ambassador to an event. Agree with the advocacy, comms and income leads when each relationship gets asked for something, so no one is approached twice in a week by different people.
- Records and reporting. Make sure every key contact is in HubSpot with an owner, a last contact date and a next step. Send the CEO and board a short monthly update covering new members, active partnerships, ambassador activity and any relationships at risk.
What success looks like after 12 months
- Agreed number of member organisations signed up and active on the FAN hub
- A number (TBC) of club foundations or supporters' trusts working with us on a programme or campaign
- A pool of ambassadors confirmed and taking part in at least one campaign or event
- Every key relationship in HubSpot with a named owner and a next step
- A team of network managers who meet regularly and know what they're working towards
What we're looking for
Essential
- Experience managing relationships with partner organisations, members or high-profile individuals. Tell us about one you built from scratch
- Experience leading a team, paid or voluntary, including people working remotely
- Organised enough to keep track of a lot of contacts without anything going cold
- Confident speaking to senior people at clubs, charities and businesses
- Ability to commit close to 5 hours a week to maintain momentum
Desirable
- Knowledge of the football for good sector, club foundations or the supporters' trust movement
- Contacts in football, sport or the media
- Used HubSpot or a similar CRM
What we offer
- A leadership seat in a new organisation, with a real say in who we work with and how
- Direct work with the founder and CEO
- Expenses covered under our expenses policy
- A reference and a defined senior role you can put on your CV
- A front seat in the vehicle to make society a better place through the sport we love.
Before you apply
- This is an unpaid role.
- You'll sign our volunteer agreement and code of conduct, and follow our data protection policy.
- Please tell us about any current roles, paid or voluntary, with other football organisations, campaign groups or talent agencies so we can manage any conflict of interest openly.
How to apply
Apply through the role page on Football Action Network's website: fill in the form and attach your CV. FAN is taking applications on a rolling basis and will start reviewing applications on 23 October 2026.
In your application: You might tell us about a relationship you built from scratch, and why FAN, and why now. Please also mention any current roles we should know about (see "Before you apply").
