Established in 1996, Middlesbrough FC Foundation is the charity arm of Middlesbrough Football Club. Through programmes delivered under the banners of Education and Employability, Health and Wellbeing, and Social Inclusion, the Foundation aims to inspire confidence and inspire hope, having a positive influence throughout the communities of Teesside — from young people needing a chance, guidance and someone to trust, to adults seeking work or education support, to those in later life looking to rebuild social connections.
Over nearly three decades, the Foundation has delivered over £20 million in social return on investment, engaged with over 38,000 participants, and delivered over 25,000 sessions between 2019 and 2024. Its current strategy, Together 2024-28, aims to build on this impact.

About the Role
Working as part of the Social Inclusion Team, the Premier League Kicks Activator will deliver on the Foundation's Premier League Kicks Programme, which provides young people with free community sport in local areas of high need, aiming to reduce anti-social behaviour. Delivery focuses on high-quality, engaging and inclusive activities, combining physical activity with educational workshops.
What You'll Do
Engage and support young people attending Premier League Kicks sessions across the Tees Valley, encouraging active and regular participation
Deliver and facilitate evening youth provision in community settings, with a flexible approach that may include coaching, refereeing and youth work
Build positive relationships with participants and colleagues
Ensure inclusive practice and adaptive delivery to meet diverse needs
Support the setup of sessions to ensure a safe and welcoming environment
Act as a role model, promoting positive behaviours and attitudes
Promote the Foundation's vision, mission and core values
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues and participants to ensure high-quality sessions
Demonstrate a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, adapting resources and engagement to ensure equal opportunities for all
Adhere to health and safety requirements with support from the Health and Safety Lead
Work with the Designated Safeguarding Officer on safeguarding commitments
Contribute to data and impact measurement, working with the Data and Impact Coordinator
Attend team meetings and training sessions as required
What They're Looking For
Essential:
Experience working with children and young people, in coaching, youth work or officiating
A good standard of general education, including strong literacy and numeracy skills
Ability to think creatively and motivate and inspire young people
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding
Ability to work independently and proactively, showing initiative
Ability to work as part of a team
Excellent verbal skills and ability to adapt delivery to meet individual needs
A flexible approach to working evenings and occasional weekends
Willingness to travel within the Tees Valley, including Middlesbrough, Stockton and East Cleveland
Eligibility to work in the UK
Willingness to complete a satisfactory enhanced DBS check
Emergency First Aid Certificate, or willingness to work towards one
FA Safeguarding Children course, or willingness to work towards it
Desirable:
Experience delivering a range of sport-related activities
Experience working with young people with special educational needs or disabilities
Experience engaging young people from diverse backgrounds
Experience supporting young people to collaborate
FA Introduction to First Aid; FA Introduction to Football and/or Level 2 Youth Work
Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate
UEFA C Licence, or another Level 1/2 coaching qualification from a recognised National Governing Body
Sports or Education degree, or equivalent experience
The FA Referee Course
Knowledge of how to create safe spaces and a positive environment for young people
Understanding of the challenges young people face in the Tees Valley
Understanding of youth work principles
A valid driving licence with access to own transport
Practical Details
Location: Range of locations across the Tees Valley (Middlesbrough, Stockton and East Cleveland)
Contract: Various contracts available, up to a maximum of 14 hours per week (to be discussed at interview)
Hours: Evening (4pm–7pm) and occasional weekend work
Salary: £12.81 per hour
Reports to: Youth Engagement Coordinator
Vetting: Post falls within the scope of regulated activity and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974); successful applicants must complete a satisfactory enhanced DBS check before starting
