About the Organisation
Established in 1996, Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation is the official charity arm of Middlesbrough Football Club. Through programmes delivered under the banners of Education and Employability, Health and Wellbeing, and Social Inclusion, the Foundation works to inspire confidence and inspire hope across the communities of Teesside.
Over nearly three decades, the Foundation has built a consistent presence across the Tees Valley — between 2019 and 2024 alone it delivered over £20 million in social return on investment, engaged with more than 38,000 participants, and ran over 25,000 sessions. Its work spans football provision through to support for people living with dementia, with a Together 2024-28 strategy guiding its continued growth and impact.
About the Role
Working as part of the Education Team, the Education Officer will deliver the Foundation's Premier League Inspires programme, funded by the Premier League Foundation.
The role centres on high-quality, engaging and supportive one-to-one mentoring, as well as small cohort interventions built around identified themes such as attendance, attainment and behaviour. The postholder will also support delivery of the Premier League Kicks programme.
The Foundation expects all staff to live and embed its core values — quality, inspire, teamwork, inclusion, and honesty and integrity — in how they deliver activity and interact with partners and colleagues.
What You'll Do
Plan, prepare and deliver a range of one-to-one and group targeted interventions to children and young people referred to the Premier League Inspires programme, predominantly within school settings
Build positive, trusted relationships with young people through early and responsive intervention based on individual needs, interests and personal strengths
Act as a positive role model for children and young people, providing non-judgemental support and respecting diversity and lifestyle choices
Work with multi-agency organisations to provide wrap-around support for young people and their families
Create and sustain partnerships with local schools and organisations to provide suitable exit strategies for participants, encouraging involvement in community-based activities
Support and encourage children and young people to access Premier League Kicks and wider Foundation programmes
Support delivery of other programmes and sessions across the Foundation, including some evening and weekend work — for example, Premier League Kicks, match days and holiday camps
Undertake administrative tasks and communicate with a range of stakeholders
Support data collection with guidance from your line manager and the Data and Impact Coordinator
Demonstrate a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, including adapting resources and engagement to ensure equal opportunities for all
Adhere to health and safety requirements with support from your line manager and the Health and Safety Manager
Work with Safeguarding Ambassadors and the Designated Safeguarding Officer, maintaining a strong commitment to safeguarding
Promote the vision, mission and core values of Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation
What They're Looking For
Essential:
Experience and/or understanding of basic youth work practices, including one-to-one mentoring and group activities
Experience of working with children and young people in an educational or youth work setting
A passion for improving opportunity for young people from high-need areas and/or under-represented groups
Ability to communicate with young people, schools and partner agencies
Knowledge and awareness of transition periods in young people's lives
Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities linked to youth work practice
Ability to work independently as a self-starter, working and thinking creatively and taking initiative towards inspirational, motivating delivery
Ability to listen, empathise and give individualised support and advice
Strong commitment to quality service delivery
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Flexible and adaptable delivery approach
Willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to both Social Inclusion Team delivery and wider Foundation operations
A good standard of general education, including high-level literacy and numeracy skills
A flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends, and ability to work or visit locations other than the immediate workplace on a regular basis
Eligible to work in the UK
A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will need to be completed
A valid driving licence with access to own transport, including business insurance, and willingness to travel within the Tees Valley
Desirable:
Experience supporting young people who are not in education, employment or training
Experience supporting and developing links with parents, carers, families and other agencies
Experience managing caseloads
Level 2 Youth Work Qualification, or willingness to work towards
Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate, or willingness to work towards
Level 2 Effective Mentoring, or willingness to work towards
Emergency First Aid Certificate, or willingness to work towards
FA Safeguarding Children Course, or willingness to work towards
Level 1 or above Sports Coaching Qualification from a recognised National Governing Body (e.g. FA Introduction to Football/UEFA C Licence), or willingness to work towards
Creating Safe Spaces Training
Level 3 Youth Work
Trauma-Informed Practice Training, or willingness to work towards
Knowledge of the issues facing young people from high-need communities
Understanding of how health, social, economic and environmental factors can impact young people and their communities
Experience in collecting data
Desire to demonstrate positive role model qualities in the eyes of young people
IT skills, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software
