Established in 1996, Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation is the official charity arm of Middlesbrough Football Club. Through programmes delivered under the banners of Education and Employability, Health and Wellbeing, and Social Inclusion, the Foundation works to inspire confidence and inspire hope across the communities of Teesside.
Over nearly three decades, the Foundation has built a consistent presence across the Tees Valley — between 2019 and 2024 alone it delivered over £20 million in social return on investment, engaged with more than 38,000 participants, and ran over 25,000 sessions. Its work spans football provision through to support for people living with dementia, with a Together 2024-28 strategy guiding its continued growth and impact.
About the Role
The Targeted Youth Officer will deliver targeted interventions for young people aged 11–18 identified as at risk of radicalisation, exploitation or social exclusion. The role includes mentoring, workshop delivery and personal development support under the Preventing Radicalisation (Prevent) programme, alongside a contribution to wider youth engagement initiatives such as Premier League Kicks.
Delivery will focus on high-quality, engaging activity, including educational workshops, interventions, mentoring and sports and physical activity. The Foundation expects all staff to live and embed its core values — quality, inspire, teamwork, inclusion, and honesty and integrity — in how they deliver activity and interact with partners and colleagues.
What You'll Do
Plan, deliver and review 1:1 mentoring and group sessions for referred individuals under the Prevent programme, in line with Home Office frameworks
Liaise with schools and facilitate school-based workshops addressing Extreme Right-Wing Terrorism (ERWT), misogyny, incel ideology and mass violence
Support delivery of Premier League Kicks sessions
Build trusted relationships with young people, acting as a positive role model
Collaborate with local partners including Stockton Borough Council, Cleveland Police, schools and community groups
Maintain accurate records of attendance, engagement and outcomes
Support with mid and end of year reporting
Ensure all delivery meets safeguarding, Prevent and health & safety standards
Promote the vision, mission and core values of the Foundation
Demonstrate a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, including adapting resources and engagement to ensure equal opportunities for all
Adhere to health and safety requirements with support from the Health and Safety Lead
Work with the Designated Safeguarding Officer, maintaining a strong commitment to safeguarding
Contribute to data and impact measurement, working with the Data and Impact Coordinator
What They're Looking For
Essential:
Experience of working with children and young people
Experience delivering a range of activities related to sport, education and/or wellbeing
Experience collecting data, with excellent verbal skills and an ability to adapt delivery to meet individual needs
Ability to think creatively and motivate and inspire young people
Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding
Ability to work independently and proactively, showing initiative
Ability to work as part of a team
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A good standard of general education, including high-level literacy and numeracy skills
A flexible approach to working hours, including evening and weekend work as part of regular delivery
Eligible to work in the UK
A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will need to be completed
Desirable:
Experience working with vulnerable or at-risk youth in community or educational settings
Experience working with young people at risk of exploitation in community or educational settings
Experience working in multi-agency settings
Level 2 Qualification in Effective Mentoring, or willingness to work towards
Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate, or willingness to work towards
Completion of Home Office Prevent Duty Awareness and Channel Referrals training, or willingness to work towards
Trauma-informed care training, or willingness to work towards
Level 1/Level 2 Sports Coaching Qualification from a recognised National Governing Body (e.g. FA Introduction to Football/UEFA C Licence)
Emergency First Aid Certificate, or willingness to work towards
FA Safeguarding Children Course, or willingness to work towards
Ability to engage and motivate young people from diverse backgrounds
Cultural sensitivity to local community dynamics
Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and safeguarding disclosures
Knowledge of a range of positive pathways available to young people within the Tees Valley area
Practical Details
Working Pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours a week, including evening and weekend work
Contract Type: 12-month contract
Salary: £26,227.50
