About the Organisation
Established in 1996, Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation is the official charity arm of Middlesbrough Football Club. Through programmes delivered under the banners of Education and Employability, Health and Wellbeing, and Social Inclusion, the Foundation works to inspire confidence and inspire hope across the communities of Teesside.
Over nearly three decades, the Foundation has built a consistent presence across the Tees Valley — between 2019 and 2024 alone it delivered over £20 million in social return on investment, engaged with more than 38,000 participants, and ran over 25,000 sessions. Its work spans football provision through to support for people living with dementia, with a Together 2024-28 strategy guiding its continued growth and impact.
About the Role
The United for Change Project is a youth-led initiative that empowers young people aged 16–20 to lead and drive positive change in their community. The Foundation is recruiting 10 Peer Action Leads to support the planning and delivery of two social action projects in the local area.
Volunteers will develop personally and professionally, building employability and transferable skills through training delivered by Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation. The Foundation expects all volunteers to live and embed its core values — quality, inspire, teamwork, inclusion, and honesty and integrity — in how they deliver activity and interact with partners and colleagues.
What You'll Do
Monitoring and Evaluation Preparation
Design questionnaires
Collect baseline data
Record community feedback
Identify issues affecting young people in their local area
Conduct surveys with peers
Gather views through focus groups
Youth Voice and Consultation
Engage other young people in discussions
Represent youth voices at meetings
Collect feedback on community needs
Help identify which of the four United for Change themes matter most locally: Mental Health & Wellbeing, Healthy Relationships & Safety, Opportunities & Employability, and Priority Groups Facing Multiple Barriers
Project Planning
Help design social action projects
Set aims and objectives
Create action plans
Support budgeting decisions
Help determine what success looks like
Training and Development
Complete safeguarding training
Complete equality, diversity and inclusion training
Take part in mental health awareness training
Take part in community leadership training
Develop communication and public speaking skills
Take part in team working and employability skills workshops

Essential:
A passion for helping others and making a positive difference in the community
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn new skills and training
Willingness to develop communication skills and confidence speaking with peers and adults
Ability to work well as part of a team
Reliability and commitment to agreed activities and meetings
Positive attitude and willingness to encourage others
Ability to listen to different viewpoints and respect others
Willingness to develop data collection skills, including the use of questionnaires
Motivated to create positive social change
Open-minded and inclusive towards people from different backgrounds
Responsible and able to follow instructions when needed
Willing to take initiative and share ideas
Desirable:
Previous involvement in volunteering, social action, youth groups, clubs, sports teams or community activities
Experience of helping organise activities
Experience of representing the views of other young people
Experience working with people from different backgrounds
Interest in leadership and developing responsibility
Confidence speaking in front of groups
A creative thinker who enjoys finding solutions to challenges
