Bloomsbury Football Foundation started in 2018 with four kids and a bag of footballs on a housing estate in Camden. Today it reaches over 7,000 children and young people every week across London, using football as a vehicle for health, wellbeing and social change, and it is now expanding into areas of deprivation across the country.
The Foundation is creating a public affairs function and is looking for the person to build and lead it. You will own its relationships with government and the wider statutory world as it grows from a London charity into a national one, and turn that into income: building relationships, shaping fundable propositions and winning statutory funding.
Salary: £48,620 - £57,000 a year
Hours: Full time
Location: London Office, Camden (on site)
Reports to: Director of Fundraising
Key responsibilities:
- Build relationships across government departments, Parliament, the civil service, local authorities and quasi-governmental funders, on a strictly cross-party basis
- Track the policy landscape across youth, sport, community, education and social mobility
- Own the pipeline of government and statutory funding, from horizon-scanning to award, across grants, commissioned contracts and tenders
- Create proactive propositions for ministers, officials and commissioners
- Lead the writing of bids and tenders, including consortia and partnership bids
- Oversee relationships with funders such as the Youth Endowment Fund, Sport England and FIFA
- Steward statutory funders after award and build the Foundation's political profile
- Lead and grow the public affairs function
Essential:
- At least five years across government, Parliament, a political party, public affairs, policy or a related field
- A strong network across the statutory ecosystem
- A track record of securing statutory, political or institutional income, or writing winning bids
- Excellent written communication and sound political judgement
- A genuine belief in football as a tool for social impact
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK
Desirable:
- Experience of the youth, sport, education or social mobility policy landscape
- Experience of government commissioning, contracts and tenders
- Experience building a public affairs or policy function, or line-managing a team
Benefits include 24 days' holiday rising with service, funded training and five days' paid study leave, a salary sacrifice pension, cycle to work scheme and free gym membership.
The role is subject to safer recruitment checks, including an Enhanced DBS check.
