Closing Date31 Dec 2026

About Us

Sport Local Action shines a light on the sport for good sector - the charities, foundations, clubs, and individuals using sport to change lives. We tell the stories that don't usually make the front page: the coaches, the programmes, the small wins that add up to real community impact.

About the Role

We're looking for several volunteer writers to help us produce daily news content for sportlocalaction.org, our weekly Power of Sport newsletter, and social media. You'll find, research, and write stories from across the sport for good sector.

This is a volunteer role, totally flexible - give as much or as little time as you have. Whether you can file one story a month or several a week, there's a place for you.

What You'll Do

Daily News

Write news stories for sportlocalaction.org covering the sport for good sector
Spot stories from charities, foundations, and community sport programmes
Turn press releases, reports, and tip-offs into clear, engaging copy
Interview coaches, participants, and organisers where possible

Weekly Newsletter

Contribute articles and story round-ups

Podcast

Suggest and help source potential guests from within the sector for the Power of Sport Podcast

Social Media

Help turn written stories into short-form posts
What We're Looking For
An interest in writing and in sport for good / social impact through sport
Clear, accurate writing - any level of experience welcome
Reliable with whatever time you commit, big or small
Journalism, communications, or content experience is a plus but not required

How to Apply

Get in touch with Xavier at xavier@sportlocalaction.org - tell us a bit about yourself and roughly how much time you'd like to give.
