About the Role
The Trust's Social Inclusion team is looking for a passionate, innovative and reliable Youth Engagement Officer to grow its provision for young people across a range of local secondary schools, SEND schools, alternative provision and SEMH schools. The role includes delivering the Premier League Inspires programme, which supports young people to overcome barriers in education by building the skills, attitude and aspiration to succeed, alongside wider inclusion and community-based work.
Delivery is aimed at small groups of young people for a weekly session combining educational workbooks, physical activity and wellbeing exercises, as well as one-to-one sessions with young people struggling in school. The postholder will work across Three Rivers, Watford, Hertsmere, St Albans, Dacorum and Harrow, joining a friendly and experienced team. Full training and ongoing CPD will be provided, though prior experience in these settings is essential.
What You'll Do
Provide high-quality educational delivery to local young people aged 11–18, in line with project values and structure
Confidently manage challenging behaviour and report any safeguarding disclosures to the Community Project Manager (Young People)
Deliver engaging, enjoyable sessions that help young people achieve positive outcomes
Build good rapport with young people and act as a trusted adult
Work effectively as part of the wider team
Undertake an enhanced DBS check, safeguarding training and other relevant training
Complete administration tasks, including designing high-quality session plans and inputting, monitoring and evaluating data (including on Salesforce)
Ensure the programme has a positive, well-recorded impact on the young people referred
Help the team reach its overall targets across the academic year
Liaise with the Community Project Manager to build new and existing relationships with schools to generate sustainable income for the organisation
What They're Looking For
Essential:
Understanding of the Trust's commitment to EDI and safeguarding
Experience working with children and/or young people
Experience working in schools or youth settings
Positive attitude and innovative personality
Good maths and literacy skills
Excellent communication skills
Access to a vehicle
Desirable:
Youth work or similar qualifications
Experience working in alternative education or SEND schools
Awareness or training around adverse childhood experiences, additional needs, trauma-informed practice and mental health
Sports or coaching qualifications
Practical Details
Location: Meriden Community Centre, Watford
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, with possible flexibility
Salary: £27,040–£30,680 per annum
