Community rowing programmes
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Fulham Reach Boat Club runs two community rowing programmes. Boats Not Bars is a 6-8 week rowing course delivered in prison, aimed at reducing reoffending through the power of sport. It serves prisoners and prison leavers, including young adults at HMYOI Werrington (launched January 2026), with through-the-gate support including free club membership after release; the programme won the Sports Innovation Award at the 2023 Sports Business Awards. The Accessible Rowing Programme breaks down barriers for people with disabilities and impairments to access the River Thames: piloted in August 2024, followed by a free 12-week Learn to Row course for 10 adults with visual impairments in 2025 funded by Love Rowing.
