Health Disability Activity Pathway (Disability Sport Wales)
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
The Health Disability Activity Pathway (HDAP) is a partnership between Disability Sport Wales, NHS health boards and local authority partners that helps health professionals signpost disabled people into physical activity and sport. It began in 2014 as a pilot with NHS Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, expanded to Hywel Dda Health Board in 2019 and went nationwide in 2022. A patient and their healthcare professional complete a signposting form; a local practitioner screens the referral and the local sport development team or practitioner discusses options such as suitable clubs and sessions or a Leisure Card. In its first three years in Betsi Cadwaladr, 560 disabled people were signposted from health into physical activity and 1,190 healthcare professionals attended up-skilling sessions.
