Hoops 4 Health
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Hoops 4 Health is Eagles Community Foundation's healthy-living programme for Year 5 primary school pupils, using Newcastle Eagles players as role models to convey positive health messages through basketball. Delivered in four stages: an interactive roadshow afternoon (mental and social wellbeing, keeping fit and looking after heart and lungs, hydration, healthy eating, plus basketball), four hours of coaching from a Level 2 ECF coach, regional Year 5 tournaments hosting 300-400 participants, and semi-finals and finals at the Vertu Motors Arena during an Eagles home game. First delivered in the 2000-01 academic year to 32 schools in Newcastle's most deprived wards (over 4,000 children), it currently delivers to primary schools across Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside and Northumberland, and links into the Foundation's basketball development programme (U10/U12 sessions). Contact: office@newcastle-eagles.com or 0191 245 3880.
