Inclusive community table tennis and Club of Sanctuary (Brighton Table Tennis Club)
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Brighton Table Tennis Club, founded in 2007 and now a registered charity with centres in Kemptown and Moulsecoomb, uses table tennis to bring people from all backgrounds together. It runs over 200 tables across the city in parks, squares, schools, sheltered housing, a centre for homeless people, sports centres and a psychiatric hospital, and works in three prisons. More than 1,500 people play in its weekly sessions, including people with learning and physical disabilities, Looked After Children, people from the Brighton Travellers site, the LGBT community and young asylum seekers. It was the world's first recognised Club of Sanctuary for its work with refugees and trains a wide range of people as coaches, including refugees, prisoners and people with Down's Syndrome.
