Wheelchair skills training and activity courses
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Back Up supports people affected by spinal cord injury. Its wheelchair skills training is delivered by accredited trainers who are themselves wheelchair users: Stage 1 sessions are held in spinal centres and general hospitals around the UK for any ability, age or injury level, and Stage 2 'wheelchair skills extra' sessions practise skills in real-world locations around the UK (Back Up does not publish a centre-by-centre list, so no individual regions are marked), alongside wheelchair skills videos and an app. Sessions cover pushing technique, kerbs and obstacles, back-wheel balancing and transfers for manual or power chair users. Participants register for Back Up services online. Back Up does not publish participant costs on its website.
