Youth Work Voyages (Ocean Youth Trust Scotland)
ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME
Ocean Youth Trust Scotland has delivered youth work on the waves since 1999, using sail training voyages for the personal development of young people from all backgrounds. Aboard its vessels Alba Explorer and Alba Venturer (12 crew each), young people learn to sail while building teamwork and facing fears and challenges, skills the Trust says transfer into school, home and employment. Voyages are offered to groups (schools, youth and community organisations) and as individual voyages for ages 11-15 and 16-24, which can also count as Duke of Edinburgh residentials. The Trust says it has supported over 16,000 young people in 27 years.

PARTICIPANT VOICE
“My confidence has increased 100%. Before the voyage I was quite insular, I would overthink things and get anxious. I'm dyslexic and was bullied at school because of that. Teamwork and people getting to know me allowed me to be the person I wanted to be. I wasn't being judged by people, and my social skills improved. - Young person (published by Ocean Youth Trust Scotland)”
